A while back, we had talked about the possibility of all starting up alternate characters on a server so that we could go hunt together.

Anyone who plays will know that recently, the much hyped roleplay server has gone online as a test server. I've been playing on it a little, and have to say that I like alot of the things that they're going to implement (outside of trivial loot code).

So, I would say that the official live launch of this server would be a perfect opportunity for us to pick a race and go get killed by bats, cats, and giant rats together.

I know Spatch is in. Maybe we can lure Roup in as well. I don't know if Aiki hangs around here much anymore, but I can get in touch with him ingame, or on his guild message board.

Anyone else who plays and would like to join in on this, give me a shout and we'll talk over the particulars like race and alignments, etc. I know Spatch already has a vote in for us to all be dorfs.

My only preference is no gnomes and no halflings. The gnome home city is full of ticking mechanical things and it drives me friggin' nuts, and halflings .. well, I just don't like the li'l buggers.

If the vote goes for either, I'll play one though.

We need to talk this out and get a consensus, because the server is going to be a one character only server like Sullon Zek.

Give me a shout or post here, and I'll put together a list so we can talk through mail or something.

See you in Norrath!

Well, since I played Baldur's Gate over again out of boredom and wore that out (solo adventure, one Ranger all the way through, no cheating, it rocked!) and I'm getting a little tired of Alpha Centauri, I may be in. I just need to get me mitts on the games now....

This is one of the coolest ideas yet. I'm excited with the prospect of a roleplay server that keeps the griefers and d00dz to a minimum.

I thought a band of dwarves would be cool because it would be amusing to be a group o' dorfs running around beating up monsters and drinking ale. However, as with almost any race choice, it would seriously limit us on our classes -- warrior, rogue, paladin, and cleric. Enough for a decent and fairly-balanced team, I'll grant you, but if anybody wants to play a serious finger-waggler or wrist-buster we'd probably have to choose a different race.

I mean, we could just be humans and enjoy the widest possible range of classes, but they're so boring. And mediocre. And they can't see in the dark and we couldn't twink 'em out with greater lightstones just yet. And I hate most of the human faces. At least the half-elves have SENOR RICKY MARTIN in their midst.

So I'm cool with, say, dwarves, Iksar, trolls (we'd have Guk just waiting for us to plunder it like, uh, something that's just waiting to be plundered) or maybe even barbarians (I know DBB was enjoying his test barb rogue and I really haven't done much with Halas and Everfrost other than get lost in 'em.) I've played too much of a halfling to want to start another one, but I could enjoy a group of gnomes (the ticking in Ak'Anon is fucking INSANE but you actually learn to tune it out, or at least sit someplace far away from the clockwork vendors) and gnomes can be delightfully malevolent creatures when they put their minds to it. But if we did pick a shortie race, I'd say dwarves, please.

Inkies? Bah. Everybody and his cousin will be an inky when this starts out, I think, and Nek will be full. Just a (half-assed) prediction. I think we'll see precious few Erudites, though.

Anyway. Enough chit-chat. I gotta play the game now. Discussing it gives me the shakes, man!

Count me in. Dwarves are a great choice. Gnomes would be nice because of the wider variety of classes they can play (plus they all look like the Mayor from The Powerpuff Girls). But I'm comfortable enough with the game now to start a character of any race.

Keep in mind that the roleplay server is still in its testing phase, which means that all of the characters on it will be wiped when the server goes live (probably within the next 2 or 3 weeks).

Hey Bom, if you want a copy of EQ you can have mine... I got it for free, but can't play it because my computer is waaaaaaaaaaay too slow.

I was gonna stick it on E-bay, but that requires too much effort. If the Forest God of Wackiness would like, it's in the mail!

Thanks WF, I really appreciate that, but if there is only a few weeks for us to play, can it get here fast enough? Plus, if it only costs ten bucks, it might be cheaper to just wander out and buy a copy. Not that I'm looking a gift horse in the cavities, you made me get all melty-gooshy in your offer.

I'm definitely for whatever race the group decides on since I'll be a newcomer. I'm accustomed to playing rangers and thieves, but just as happy to step out of type. My time is limited, mostly, to nights when Goldberry is working (Wed-Sat this week), but on those nights I oculd play all night. I'll pick up a copy tomorrow afternoon if I haven't heard from Wondia by then.

The $10 box has the original three continents, which would make dwarves a prime possibility.

Aiki - I was thinking that we should try for this when the rp server goes live since the wipe will most likely happen. That gives us a few weeks to iron out particulars like what class/alignments to be so that we can group.

I can send it out tomorrow, if you want it. It'd prolly arrive in a few days, so if you'd like, just e-mail me with address and I'll wrap it up.

Would this be one of those things like Diablo where if people don't all log about the same amount of hours, adventuring together eventually becomes impossible due to level differences? If not, I might be interested. Especially if axes could be involved.

I like axes.
