Thanks to spiff, who just rocks, I got to try lots of weird oriental snack foods today. and here are my thoughts:

Hello Panda Cookies These are shaped like little panda heads, and have cute little panda pictures on them, and the cookie is pretty good, but again, I don't like chocolate...and these are filled with chocolate. B-

Pocky: This was strawberry flavored Pocky, and well I don't like artificial strawberry flavor, it was still VERY yummy, I will have to try other flavors of this. And since we have a ton of japanese grocery places around here, I can do this. A-(would of been an A if it weren't for artificial strawberry flavours)

Pretz: Hmm kinda like pocky but chocolate flavoured biscuit, and not fudge covering, I didn't like it much...but I don't like chocolate. B-

Shrimp Chips These look like frech frys gone bad. At first you put them in your mouth and all you taste is salt, lot of salt, then you chew, swallow, and "there's the shrimp"-Pet, who in the world wants a fishy aftertaste??? D-

Umbrella Cookies I once ate a dog biscuit on a bet, and this is exactly what it tasted like. Ick, just exactly what you'd think wheat flour would taste like. D+ it had to be better than fishy aftertaste

Ginger Candy Pet's dog is named Ginger, I don't want to eat her!!!! How evil is this, cutting up small pieces of a sweet lil psycho dalmation and eating it???? wrong wrong wrong... Anyway, this tasted like they took pickled ginger (A+++) and added about 2 tons of sugar too it, ick. D

Sesame Seed Cake Hmm, this is ugly, and REALLY hard to bite, it has a weird texture, but it kinda tastes like peanut brittle or something, which isn't bad at all... c+

Marukawa Bubble Gum I tried sour apple, and am now trying melon, Pet tried mixed fruit. It's initial taste is much better than little kids American gum, but it loses this good flavor in like 30 seconds, as apposed to the 45 it takes for American kids gum to lose flavour. B

Conjac Coconut Jelly Wow, doesn't taste coconuty at all...it is pretty good, I'd buy more of these when I go buy more pocky! Really it's good... B+

Thats it!

Good ratings, Cheatara!

Just a few opinions and some ratings of my own:

As far as I know, everyone either loves or hates shrimp-flavored chips. I guess either you think, "Hey cool! Shrimp flavoring!" or you think, "Ick. Shrimp flavoring." I personally love them, and to those who don't like them, I say, "Poo to you. More for me!" Shrimp-flavored chips get an A+.

Also, the Conjac Coconut Jellies are actually lychee-flavored. I don't know why they're called that. I'm guessing it's the same people who named those "Hot-Kid Fried Rice Crackers." But Cheatara, if you like the flavor of those jellies, I'd also recommend trying either fresh or canned lychees. They're really good too. Lychee-flavored things get a B+.

In my opinion, Hello Pandas aren't as good as these koala cookies (made by the same people) that are basically Hello Pandas but less greasy. They also have strawberry koalas, but since you don't like artificial strawberry, it probably makes no difference to you. Hello Pandas get a C, while koala cookies get an A.

One last thing. Pocky. If you can find it, try Marble Pocky. Those are excellent. Also, Almond Crush Pocky. My roommate brought me back Mousse Pocky from Japan, and those were the best, but I've never seen them here. I give Pocky an A just for sheer amount of variety.

If anyone wants to try any of these things, or any of the other stuff Cheatara mentioned, I'll be happy to mail stuff out to you...just email me.

The difference is that mens pocky is made with dark chocolate where the other chocolate pockys are made with milk chocolate.

To wander off on a tangent for a moment--once long long ago I had a japanese significant other who used to bring home from the asian grocery store these waffle like fish shaped pastries filled with "bean jam". Anyone know what these odd creatures are called?

i love pocky...and koala cookies...and the chewy coffee candy and the little girl candy (actually, i don't know what it's called, but it has little anime girls all over the package and that's what my friend calls it). unfortunately, there are no asian grocery stores around here, ANYWHERE, so I can only have pocky about once a year. poo

We have 3 asian gocery stores, well really one japanese, one chinease, and one asian, with in a 5 minute walk of our apartment. And our mall sells all the popular oriental snack foods...
