I believe that the C.I.A. should be immediately done away with, I don't care what it's supposed to be doing, what it has done, or what it actually does, it's way to corrupt, and has employed/trained many of the biggest psychopathic fucks of the past 70 years, which I believe include Fidel Castro, Bin Laden, and a couple thousand former nazis (as spies against russia during the cold war era). I don't trust an agency that has spawned terrorists, committers of genocide (the C.I.A. does train it's members to devalue life, and the training could very well impact their psychotic decisions/actions), and that has hired former nazis, these things tend to scare me, and cause to question my own country's initiative sometimes. We could definetely do without such a thing in America, whether or not it does supply us with some important imformation.[This message has been edited by Mr. HappyPants (edited September 26, 2001).] [This message has been edited by Mr. HappyPants (edited September 26, 2001).] IP: Logged |

Um ... two things1) the CIA wasn't even in existence during Hitler's time. It was developed out of a military intelligence office that was formed during World War II, and wasn't created as it's own agency until later. 2) Decaf. edited for linky goodness [This message has been edited by Darth Billy Bob (edited September 25, 2001).] IP: Logged |

DBB> He spoke of former Nazis. After WWII.Pants> Castro is not a psychopath. He's not my favourite world leader, but his only crime in America's eyes is being a communist. Not good enough for me. Recently he made statements that, after reaffirming his support for the US in this crisis (it takes a big man to do that when you've been treated as Cuba has been treated by the US), cautioned against taking action that would escalate the conflict. He was just putting his two cents in, it seemed, but Bush and company sounded hawkish to HIM. At least I'm not alone there. IP: Logged |

JD -- I can read. Can you? quote:

Is the name Adolf Hitler showing up mispelled in that list on my browser alone or something? IP: Logged |

In JD's defense, I think most people's brains would have altered the initial post to wring some form of reality from it. If my brain was on "this is not 'tin-foil hat' conspiracy, but a thoughtful post, I probably would have processed it into something similar"

In my own defense, maybe JD should bother to read all the way through a post before deciding to correct others.IP: Logged |

Hey, HappyPants, just FYI, it's bad form to edit an earlier post in such a way as to invalidate later posts. By taking the reference to Hitler out, much of this thread makes no sense. We've all gotten stuck leaving something inaccurate, embarrassing, or just plain wrong posted because there've been responses to it. Your fellow Brunchers will forgive.IP: Logged |

I think the CIA is secretly a leftist disinformation organization. Otherwise they wouldn't publicize such hard truths as: quote: The onrush of technology largely explains the gradual development of a "two-tier labor market" in which those at the bottom lack the education and the professional/technical skills of those at the top and, more and more, fail to get comparable pay raises, health insurance coverage, and other benefits. Since 1975, practically all the gains in household income have gone to the top 20% of households. The years 1994-2000 witnessed solid increases in real output, low inflation rates, and a drop in unemployment to below 5%. Long-term problems include inadequate investment in economic infrastructure, rapidly rising medical costs of an aging population, sizable trade deficits, and stagnation of family income in the lower economic groups.
This is in the CIA World Factbook 2001, you can find it by selecting the US under the Economy heading. If the CIA wasn't a leftist movement, why would it reveal that for the past 25 years, 80% of the population has not benefited from economic growth? IP: Logged |

More likely because it's not a secret. It's just something most people don't know. The latest boom was far better in terms of helping all brackets then was the boom of the 80s, which is about the only off-the-cuff thing I can remember.

Maybe it's just me, but I found that figure apalling, and was really wondering whether it really is that bleak, or maybe these figures are really normal, but just sound bleak. I mean, don't these kind of numbers tend to lead to strikes & revolts?IP: Logged |

Actually, based on everything else I have ever heard on those numbers, they we're quite kind. As it was so well put in a Jean Claude-Van Damme movie, Time Cop"The top 10 percent get richer. Everyone else can move to Mexico." -Whoever the badguy in that movie was. Eh, it's pretty bleak. However, the appearance of prosperity is often enough all by itself. Think of the tradional pie metaphor. During the 80s, the pie itself remained roughly the same size. It looked like it got bigger, but when you factor everything in, it was pretty much the same size as before. But when the dust cleared, the amounts had been reapportioned. The rich had even more, and the poor even less. In the 90s, the same thing happened...except the pie did get bigger. So in real terms, the poor had more, even if their percentage of the pie had stayed the same (or decreased). You really have to look at it in terms of disposable income, not percentage of GDP or anything. ------------------ Lisa!
